Times have changed in college football.
Rawleigh Williams III, a three-star running back from Texas and Arkansas commit, is helping recruit a pair of highly touted players from the Natural State to the Razorbacks.
Dumas (Ark.) tight end Will Gragg and North Little Rock (Ark.) wide receiver K.J. Hill are both rated as four-star recruits and have offers from many big-time programs, such as Alabama, LSU and Notre Dame.
When Williams committed to Arkansas, he immediately began communicating with Gragg, who he has been friends with since meeting him at an Ole Miss camp last year.
“We text all the time,” Williams said. “I want to get him on board and I know he and K.J. are good friends, too.”
While he knows about the Arkansas-Texas rivalry from the old Southwest Conference, Williams said he doesn’t think it’s as weird for a Texas kid to try to convince Arkansas kids to become Razorbacks now as it was 20-plus years ago.
“It’s funny to me,” Williams said, “but in recruiting now, you could have a California kid go to Florida. It’s not as rare as it was back then.”
Gragg and Hill remain undecided, but Williams said he feels that Arkansas still has a good chance to get both players.
“I asked Will, ‘Are you still seriously considering Arkansas?’” Williams said. “He said yes and I also told him to think about me, him and K.J. together.
If they end up committing to the Razorbacks, they would be the 11th and 12th commitments for the class of 2015. They would also be the fifth and sixth four-star commitments.
