Johnson Still Waiting for Offer

Highland (Ark.) safety Avery Johnson is still waiting on an offer from Arkansas.

The window for Highland (Ark.) High’s Avery Johnson to get a scholarship offer from Arkansas is slowly closing.

The Razorbacks are looking at the athlete as a safety, but have yet to offer him. Southern Miss and Arkansas State are the only schools that have so far.

Of course Johnson would love to get an offer, but he said that he knows he shouldn’t sit around and wait for Arkansas.

“It goes both ways,” Johnson said. “I can’t wait forever for them to offer me. I would love it, but my dad put it like this: Arkansas can play without me and I can play without them.”

Coming off solid showings in camps at Memphis and Oklahoma State, Johnson came to Arkansas’ Elite Camp Thursday with hopes of picking up the elusive offer.

He did not get one, but he said he feels like he did his best in front of the Razorbacks’ coaches.

“For me it went great,” Johnson said. “I felt good and I feel like I got a lot out of it.”

Aside from the camps, Johnson has had an eventful summer, overcoming a pair of injuries.

After getting completely healed up from patella tendinitis, he pulled his quad, but recovered in time to participate in 7-on-7 before the Arkansas camp.

While he has not received a scholarship, Johnson said he would probably continue coming to Fayetteville on visits this fall.

“I think I’ll end up going to a game or two,” Johnson said.
