Whitt To Commit On Tuesday

Missouri prep guard Jimmy Whitt (6-4, 170) a- prime recruiting target of Arkansas' - decides to bump up his decision a couple of months and will announce his choice Tuesday afternoon at 5 p.m.

The Arkansas basketball program will find out late Tuesday afternoon if its long pursuit of a young man whose nickname is Jimmy Buckets will end on a positive note.

Columbia, Mo., Hickman guard Jimmy Whitt (6-4, 170) – a top 50 player nationally - will announce his college choice from among his final five of Arkansas, Missouri, SMU, Illinois and Marquette at 5 p.m. at his high school.

“Blessed to say that I will be committing tomorrow at 5 pm At Hickman High School,” Whitt tweeted out Monday night.

Whitt, who reportedly visited Arkansas unofficially on Monday, had previously announced plans to pledge somewhere after visiting those five schools on official visits in September and October.

He has known Arkansas head coach Mike Anderson and his staff since that group was at Missouri and is close friends with Razorback sophomore Manuale Watkins - son of Arkansas assistant coach Melvin Watkins.

“The familiarity with the Arkansas guys is something that is really big for me,” Whitt said earlier this summer.

Whitt averaged 22.5 points, 5.3 rebounds and a whopping 4.4 steals per game last season while leading Hickman (27-3) to the Class 5A championship game.

KC Run GMC AAU coach L.J. Goolsby noted that Whitt’s versatility is a big strength.

“I think he is multidimensional as a guard,” Goolsby said. “I think he naturally likes to score, but he is a point guard as well and can get his teammates involved. He is just one of those guys that you love having because you can utilize him so many ways.”
