LaMichael Pettway started the 2014 season with a bang.
The three-star wide receiver caught four passes for 97 yards and three touchdowns, as he led Nashville to an easy 53-10 win over Hope.
“It was a good feeling,” Pettway said. “We were picked as the underdog all week, but I knew coming out that we were going to have a big game.”
The next day, Pettway was in Fayetteville to watch Arkansas cruise to a 73-7 win over Nicholls State. He said he was pleased with what he saw from the offense, specifically the receivers, even though there weren’t many passes thrown in the game.
The unofficial visit also gave him an opportunity to talk to a few recruits that are already committed to Arkansas, like three-star tight end C.J. O’Grady from Fayetteville. O’Grady gave Pettway, as well as four-star tight end Will Gragg, his pitch for the Razorbacks.
“We were just talking about the 2015 class and how Arkansas already has seven of the top nine (in-state) recruits,” Pettway said. “Me and Will are the last two. He said if we came together, we could do big things and change the program.”
Arkansas is not the only school going after the Nashville wide receiver. Since de-committing from Ole Miss last week, Pettway said he had also been contacted by Florida, Oklahoma and Tulsa.
He does not have a timetable for when he’ll make his decision, but other recruits have already weighed in on where they think Pettway will end up.
“I think he will come,” three-star running back Rawleigh Williams said. “It’s his own decision, but I started talking to him after I saw the news on Twitter. I think (four-star wide receiver) K.J. (Hill) committing helped.”
Four-star quarterback Ty Storey said he doesn’t know where he’ll go, but he would love to have Pettway as a target at Arkansas.
“He seems like a great guy from when I’ve talked to him and he’s a great player,” Storey said. “I’ve seen his highlight film. Hopefully we can get him, too, but it’s whatever he wants to do and whatever is going to be best for him.”
