Former Arkansas quarterback Bill Montgomery was one of eight people inducted into the Southwest Conference Hall of Fame during the group’s luncheon at the Hilton Austin on Monday morning.
A three-year starter at quarterback, Montgomery finished his Razorback career as the school record-holder in virtually every passing category, including career touchdown passes (29), career passing yards (4,590), single-season passing yards (1,662) and single-game passing yards (338).
The Razorbacks went 28-5 in Montgomery’s three seasons as the starting quarterback, the highest winning percentage (.875) in Arkansas history over any three-year period. The Razorbacks won a share of the Southwest Conference title in 1968 and won the 1969 Sugar Bowl. He also lined up under center in the Game of the Century in 1969 as Arkansas played for a national championship.
Montgomery is a member in the Arkansas Sports Hall of Fame, the University of Arkansas Sports Hall of Honor, the Razorback All-Century Team and has been named an SEC Football Legend. He was an All-Southwest Conference selection in 1970.
After graduating from the University of Arkansas, Montgomery has gone on to a successful business career in Dallas. Montgomery has been instrumental in representing the University of Arkansas with the Southwest Conference Hall of Fame. He has worked alongside the Hall of Fame to honor fellow Razorbacks, including hosting an induction event last fall in Little Rock.
Montgomery joins other Razorback greats previously inducted into the Southwest Conference Hall of Fame, including Coach Frank Broyles, Coach Nolan Richardson, Coach John McDonnell, Lance Alworth, Loyd Phillips, Jerry Jones and Jimmy Johnson.

Little Rock and War Memorial Stadium are continuing their quest to land a college postseason bowl game. It would match up a team from the Sun Belt – which has Arkansas State - and one from the American Athletic Conference, which has teams such as Memphis, SMU, Tulsa, South Florida, Cincinnati and Houston.
