Hargreaves Feeds Off Energy Of Young Linebackers

Arkansas linebacker coach Vernon Hargreaves is happy with what his group got accomplished in spring drills and is anxious to add even more talent this summer.

BELLA VISTA - Arkansas linebackers coach Vernon Hargreaves got a good look at his group this spring and even though he is down a player, he’s happy about what he has to work with in Fayetteville.

He was also pleased to see how many of the players under his tutelage were tweeting about how they couldn’t wait to get back to Arkansas and get to work.

“It doesn’t take long to figure that out,” Hargreaves said before Friday’s Northwest Arkansas Razorback Club Golf Tournament. “When you are here and in the middle of it, it’s a grind, but when you do go home you find that there ‘really is nothing there for me. It is the same way when I left so let me get back here and get some work in.’.

“That’s just the way it goes. I think it is good to get a break and get away from it for a few minutes, but at the end of the day, they are ready to go.

Hargreaves, who will not have ineligible sophomore Randy Ramsey this season, was hired by Arkansas on Jan. 20 and got a chance to work with his new players in the off-season and spring drills.

Freshmen linebackers Derrick Graham and Dre Greenlaw got to campus last week and fellow 2015 signee Kendrick Jackson will be here for the second semester.

“I am excited about them just because of how excited they are and how they are eager to do well,” Hargreaves said. “That’s critical, man, just the idea that they want to be good, That spurs me on to know that I have got to do a great job with this kids.”

Hargreaves has coached at both Miami and Houston and is recruiting both Florida and Texas for the Razorbacks.

He notes he got a great reception in both states during the spring evaluation period.

“It was great,” Hargreaves said. “Every place that I went Arkansas was big and they were saying ‘you guys finished up great and you are on a roll’ and those type of things.

“So I think we have a little bit of momentum and we just got to continue that, start fast and have a great summer and all those type of things.”
