Heinrich's High On The Hogs

Arkansas hosted Iowa prep offensive lineman Jake Heinrich (6-4, 283), a four-star prospect the Razorbacks would love to add, on what he called a comprehensive unofficial visit.

When Urbandale, Iowa prep offensive lineman Jake Heinrich (6-4, 283) got his offer from Arkansas, he made it clear that he was going to get to Fayetteville as soon as possible.

He made that happen in just a little over a week as Heinrich and his dad arrived this past weekend to check out the Razorbacks.

“It was a great visit and I can’t say enough good things about the coaches, the team, the facilities and just the people in that area,” Heinrich said. “It’s just first class all the way around, just as you would expect an elite program from the SEC to be.”

Heinrich is a four-star prospect according to Scout.com who has offers from Arkansas, Iowa State, Louisville, California and Illinois among others.

One of the biggest highlights was spending over an hour near the end of his visit with Arkansas head coach Bret Bielema.

“He was just fantastic,” Heinrich said. “We got to spend so much time with him and we didn’t just talk about football. We talked about his life experiences, how he is about developing you as a man as well as a football player.

“It was just a top of the line deal. I was just so comfortable with him. He’s not only a great coach, but a great man who you can see really cares about more than just football.”

Heinrich spent most of his time with Razorback offensive line coach Sam Pittman.

“I spent most of the first day and most of the second day with Coach Pittman and that was a really special time to learn from him and just see what he is all about as a coach.

“He took me to see everything – the campus, the indoor and outdoor practice areas, the stadium, the academic areas, the locker room, the training room, the strength and conditioning area. It was a very comprehensive visit.”

He also got a chance to have a player panel featuring current Razorback offensive lineman Sebastian Tretola, Dan Skipper and Frank Ragnow.

“That was great because I got to ask anything I wanted to of Sebastian, Dan and Frank without any coaches,” Heinrich said. “They were very honest in their answers, but it was clear that they were very happy with everything that is going on at Arkansas.

“That was very important to me just to be able to talk to those guys and get their feelings on stuff. One thing all three of them said was they are here because of Coach Pittman and because he knows how to develop players and get them the NFL.

“They also really love and respect the strength and conditioning coach – Coach Ben Herbert. He really pushes them to get the most out of them and is clearly great at what he does.”

The visit obviously helped Arkansas in it’s quest to land Heinrich, but he doesn’t have a timetable yet regarding his decision.

“What I am really doing right now is to visit schools and make a thorough analysis of what they all have to offer and how I would fit in,” Heinrich said.

“I have a list of some schools that I like more and some that I like less – ones that I am not going to say yet – but I am in no hurry to make a decision right now.

“I’ll just see how some things go this summer and then start thinking about what I want to do and how I want to do it.”
