Arkansas Offers El Dorado's Gafford

After a spectacular spring and summer of improvement, emerging El Dorado junior and Arkansas Wings' star Daniel Gafford (6-10, 202) lands offers from Arkansas, Kansas and Florida on Monday.

El Dorado junior Daniel Gafford has put in a lot of work on the basketball court in his young life and was richly rewarded for that on Monday.

Gafford (6-10, 202) was offered scholarships by Arkansas – along with his 7-3 teammate and Arkansas Wings teammate Connor Vanover – as well as Kansas and Florida on Monday to go along with a previous offer from Western Kentucky.

“I was really surprised and shocked because stuff like that really doesn’t happen to me,” Gafford said. “I got a text from Kansas and talked to Arkansas on the phone.

“I’m really excited about the offers and I feel very blessed by everything.”

The Florida offer came later on Monday.

Arkansas head coach Mike Anderson was on hand for all of Gafford and Vanover’s games at the Peach in North Augusta, S.C.

“I have a great relationship with Coach Anderson and I really like all of their coaches,” Gafford said. “I think they have a great program and it is only going to get better.

“I can really see myself being a part of that.”

Gafford set a new Peach Jam record this weekend by averaging 16 rebounds in four pool games.

He had five double-doubles in six total games and compares his game right now to Los Angeles Clipper center DeAndre Jordan.

“I am very athletic and like to dunk and take everything to the rim that I can,” Gafford said. “I still need to work on my jumper, my ball handling and just get stronger.”

Gafford, who avaerged 13.4 points, 14.4 rebounds and 6.2 blocked shots per game last season for El Dorado, is obviously just beginning the recruiting process.

“I am so young and it is so early for me that I am just going to take this all very slowly,” Gafford said. “But it’s been a great day.”
