That included Ft. Lauderdale, Fla., St. Thomas Aquinas tailback James Charles (5-10, 190, 4.4), who has been to Fayetteville twice in a little over a week and participated in camp with Arkansas head coach Bret Bielema looking on Thursday.
“This is one of the best schools that I have probably ever been, too,” Charles said. “I have been to a couple of places – Tennessee and Kentucky, a couple of SEC schools.
“When I first got here last week on the visit, I just thought it was wonderful. I don’t think I have ever seen a program like this. Lots of tradition, excellent players have been through here.
“They have had great running backs, got great running backs right now in Jonathan Williams and Alex Collins, from my home.
“I just love it, love everything about it, the running back coach, the OC…Coach B has been down to my school. I just love Arkansas.”
Charles has several offers, including ones from Florida Atlantic, Florida International, Western Kentucky, Middle Tennessee, Jacksonville State, Missouri State and Fordham.
Others showing interest have been Ole Miss, Auburn Tennessee, Kentucky, Auburn and Temple.
It’s pretty simple for Charles if Arkansas were to offer.
“They would move right to the top,” Charles said.
Jean-Baptiste, Charles, athlete Destra Benoit and Wisconsin linebacker pledge Dallas Jeantry have all visited several places by car the last month or so.
“It is tough…but we are just hungry,” noted Charles, who played at Conconut Creek last season after playing at St. Thomas Aquinas as a sophomore.
Charles rushed for 303 yards and 3 touchdowns and caught 12 passes for 86 yards last season for a Coconut Creek last season.
He’ll split time this season Utah tailback commit Devontae Henry-Cole (5-9, 190) for new head coach Roger Harriott, who was a running backs coach at Florida Atlantic University last season.
The team has recently added Prestonwood, Texas, wide receiver Michael Irvin, Jr., son of the former Dallas Cowboys great, and sophomore defensive tackle Kedonis Haslim (6-4, 300), the son of NBA player Udonis Haslem.
Haslem joins recent five-star Ohio State defensive end commitment Joey Bosa on the defensive line and the offense will be led by Florida quarterback commit Jake Allen.
St. Thomas Aquinas, who has 15 coaches on staff, will open its season against Miami’s Booker T. Washington on Aug. 28 at Brian Piccolo Stadium.
“We should be really good again,” Charles said.
