Allen struggles in first scrimmage
Arkansas quarterback Brandon Allen struggled in the team's first scrimmage of the preseason Saturday.
Allen completed 10 of 23 passes for 108 yards and had an interception during the scrimmage at Razorback Stadium. Allen worked exclusively with the first-team offense.
The senior was off target several times throughout the scrimmage. His longest completion was a 43-yarder to Jared Cornelius after a pair of defenders collided trying to cover the receiver near the line of scrimmage. Allen had at least one pass dropped.
Backup quarterback Austin Allen completed 11 of 15 passes while working with the second-team offense. Allen finished with 143 yards and threw a 38-yard touchdown pass to JoJo Robinson. He was intercepted once.
Austin Allen overthrew a receiver early in the scrimmage and had the pass intercepted by freshman cornerback Ryan Pulley, who returned the interception 41 yards for a touchdown.
Rafe Peavey completed 5 of 6 passes for 22 yards working with the second-team offense. Peavey also worked with the the third-team offense.
The first-team offense scored on two drives during the scrimmage. Alex Collins went untouched on a 43-yard touchdown run for the first score and Kody Walker added a 2-yard touchdown run in the next possession.
Collins finished the scrimmage with 72 yards on six carries. Jonathan Williams had 11 carries for 70 yards, including a 39-yard run. Williams lost a fumble on a big collision with safety Santos Ramirez.
Ramirez had several big hits throughout the scrimmage, but was beat covering Robinson on his long touchdown catch. Robinson made the catch near the 30-yard line and outran the defense for the score.
The longest play of the scrimmage came from freshman running back Rawleigh Williams, who scored on a 63-yard run early in the practice. Williams got a good seal block from tight end Jack Kraus and raced down the left sideline for the score. Rawleigh Williams finished with 102 yards on 13 carries.
Tevin Beanum recorded 1.5 sacks on defense, while Jeremiah Ledbetter and Karl Roesler also had one called sack each. Taiwan Johnson, Jamichael Winston and Henre' Toliver were also credited with half-sacks.
All three of Arkansas' kickers were perfect during the scrimmage. Cole Hedlund made two field goals from 33 and 32 yards, while Lane Saling (31 yards) and Adam McFain (32 yards) each made one field goal.
The first-team defense had six tackles behind the line of scrimmage, but also gave up three plays of at least 39 yards.
