One of the best running backs in the Class of 2017 has an eye on Arkansas now that the Razorbacks have offered him.
La Grange (Texas) four-star athlete JK Dobbins said he already has about 13 scholarship offers, but when Arkansas offered him Oct. 12, he was pretty excited.
“Arkansas is a great program and they’re one of the programs that doesn’t run the spread,” Dobbins said. “They’re a pro-style offense and they run the ball, so that’s great.”
The offer came after Arkansas running backs coach Jemal Singleton watched Dobbins in practice on the Monday of the Razorbacks’ bye week.
Singleton apparently liked what he saw because he told Dobbins’ coach that Arkansas would love to have him in Fayetteville.
Dobbins knew ahead of time that Singleton would be at his practice, but he approached it like a normal day.
“It was no big deal because every day I go to practice and I work hard, so it was no big deal,” Dobbins said. “I wasn’t nervous or anything.”
The Leopards are 6-2 with two games remaining in the regular season, which Dobbins said is his main concern right now.
In those eight games, he has rushed for 2,027 yards and 27 touchdowns on 206 carries (9.8 yards/carry) and has six receptions for 87 yards.
La Grange’s losses can’t be blamed on Dobbins, either, as he had 485 yards and six touchdowns in those two games.
Dobbins will figure out his plans for the spring and summer, as far as camps and visits, after the season.
“During the football season, I don’t really worry about the recruiting stuff,” Dobbins said. “I’m just worried about getting my team a win every week and getting to the state championship.”
While he has never been to Arkansas, Dobbins said he hopes to come up to Fayetteville at some point.
Arkansas head coach Bret Bielema’s history with running backs at Wisconsin and Arkansas is something Dobbins had heard about, but hasn’t had a chance to do too much in-depth research, yet.
“I’ll look at all the little stuff,” Dobbins said. “I haven’t looked into it that far because I’ve been busy with football, but I’ll look into that.”
