SEC Chasing Down Ashdown's Brown

Ashdown safety Montaric Brown (6-1, 180, 4.5) has early offers from LSU, Alabama, Oklahoma State, Texas San-Antonio and Arkansas State and could be in line for one from Arkansas when he visits the Razorbacks this upcoming weekend.

Ashdown safety Montaric Brown is racking up offers from the SEC West and it appears more are on the way.

Brown (6-1, 180, 4.5) picked up an offer from Alabama on Sunday about two weeks after getting one from LSU, which he visited this past weekend.

He could be in line for an offer from Arkansas when he visits Saturday for the program’s Junior Day after being invited by Razorback head coach Bret Bielema and assistant Barry Lunney, Jr.

“I think Arkansas is going to offer me,” Brown said Sunday night. “They told me they wanted me to get on campus and meet the new secondary coach (Paul Rhodes), who they just hired, before they offered me.

“I grew up as a fan of Arkansas so I am excited about getting up there and being around all the coaches and seeing what the program is all about.”

Brown also has offers from Oklahoma State, Arkansas State and Texas San-Antonio as well as interest from Arkansas and others.

“Georgia has started to send me stuff so I think they are interested,” Brown said.

He had 122 tackles last season with 5 interceptions - three of which he returned for touchdowns - in a season that ended in the second round of the playoffs with a loss to eventual champion Prairie Grove.

“I really like playing man-to-man and just trying to shut down my guy,” Brown said. “I don’t know that I have a weakness, but I am just trying to get better at everything.

“We had a great year, but lost in the second round to Prairie Grove, who had a really good team.”

Brown was impressed with LSU on his visit this past weekend and got to meet the Tigers’ brightest star at the moment.

“I went down there and talked with head coach Les Miles and he told me that he wanted me to be a Tiger,” Brown said. “I got to meet a couple of players like Leonard Fournette so that was pretty cool.

“I told them that I wasn’t going to rush into a decision and wanted to just see what all comes my way."

He has several visits schedule this summer.

“I am going to see Arkansas and Oklahoma State and also planning to go to camps there and Alabama, LSU and maybe TCU,” Brown said. “I know I am also going to a Nike Camp in Dallas on March 13.”
