Fayetteville junior quarterback Taylor Powell got an invitation from Alabama head coach Nick Saban on Monday that he is going to take advantage of this weekend.
Crimson Tide wide receiver coach Billy Napier called to let Powell know that Saban would like to have him visit Alabama.
“He said that Coach Saban had taken some tapes home to watch, really liked mine and wanted to see if I could come visit this weekend,” Powell said. “So I am going to go down there and check it out.
“It’s really an honor when the defending national champions want you to come visit them. I am pretty excited about it.”
Powell led Fayetteville to the Class 7A state title this season while passing for 3,594 yards with 55 touchdowns and only eight touchdowns.
He has eight offers to this point. Purdue and Washington State recently joined Illinois, Maryland, Wake Forest, Memphis, San Diego State and Arkansas State with offers.
Arkansas is one of several other schools also showing interest.
“I talk to (Razorback assistant) Coach Barry Lunney about once a week,” Powell said.
Powell and his dad Mark – one of the Razorbacks’ team doctors – recently visited Wake Forest and North Carolina.
“The Wake Forest visit was really cool,” Powell said. “I know I could get a great education there and it is a Power Five school."
