Razorbacks swept in SEC opener

John Jones hit a three-run home run in the bottom of the eighth inning and South Carolina overcame a five-run deficit to beat Arkansas 8-6 Sunday at Founders Park.

John Jones hit a three-run home run in the bottom of the eighth inning and South Carolina overcame a five-run deficit to beat Arkansas 8-6 Sunday at Founders Park. 

The No. 12 Gamecocks swept the three-game series against the No. 13 Razorbacks. 

Jones' home run came off Arkansas closer Zach Jackson with one out in the eighth. Jackson took his second loss after giving up four runs on three hits and five walks in 2 2/3 innings. 

Arkansas (15-6, 0-3 SEC) took a 3-1 lead on Carson Shaddy's two-run single in the third and led 6-1 after Clark Eagan's RBI single in the fifth inning.

South Carolina (20-2, 3-0) pulled within 6-4 on Dom Thompson-Williams' three-run triple in the fifth and Jones' RBI hit in the sixth. Jones, who had the Gamecocks' go-ahead hit Saturday, finished Sunday's game with 5 RBIs. 

The Razorbacks are scheduled to play again Friday against Auburn at Baum Stadium.
