WR Jones Loves What He Sees At Arkansas

Arkansas got a chance to host several recruits on Saturday, including the Shreveport Evangel duo of wide receiver Johnathan Jones (6-2, 180) and safety Gaston Richardson (6-0, 190).

Shreveport, La., Evangel wide receiver Johnathan Jones knows there has been a pipeline from his school to Arkansas and he is hoping for the opportunity to continue that soon.

Jones (6-2, 180, 4.5) visited the Razorbacks on Saturday along with Evangel safety Gaston Richardson (6-0, 190) and they got the chance to look over the program, the facilities and the campus.

“I loved it completely,” Jones on Sunday. “I love the academic (center), the facilities and I got to hang out with the players and coaches and watch them scrimmage. It is just the kind of place that I am looking for.”

He got a chance to visit with former Evangel stars and current Razorbacks in wideout Jared Cornelius and safety Santos Ramirez as well as some of the other receivers.

“It was cool getting to see Jared and Sanchez and I got to know Keon Hatcher and Deon Stewart and some of the other receivers,” Jones said. “It’s a really cool group of guys.”

That’s his opinion of Arkansas receivers coach Michael Smith as well.

“He is a great coach and a great guy,” Jones said. “I have a great relationship with him. He stresses that don’t plan coming up here unless you are ready to go to work and play right away.”

Jones originally committed to Louisiana Tech in November, but de-committed in February due to his concerns over the state of Louisiana’s budget issue that may cut into collegiate athletic budgets.

He also had offers from Texas State and McNeese State after a season in which he had 11 catches for 158 yards and a touchdown.

Jones is hoping that Arkansas will soon be on that list.

“They said they are going to offer real soon,” Jones said. “I think my friend Gaston and I are going to come back up for the spring game (on April 23).”

Jones notes that he is not a blazing speedster so he is working on his technique.

“I am really focused on my routes and getting off the line clean,” Jones said. “I am not as fast as some so it’s my way to make sure I get open and am there for my quarterback.”
