Pitching carries Hogs to 3-1 win in NLR

Arkansas rode its pitching to a 3-1 win over ULM Tuesday night.

Six Arkansas pitchers combined to strikeout 11 batters and allow only four hits in a 3-1 win over Louisiana-Monroe at Dickey-Stephens Park in North Little Rock Tuesday night.

The Razorbacks got three scoreless innings from starter Blaine Knight, two perfect innings from Josh Alberius and one inning each from Cannon Chadwick, Barrett Loseke, James Teague and Doug Willey.

Despite the solid pitching, Arkansas (21-12) couldn't come up with a timely hit, stranding seven runners on base through the first four innings.

Luke Bonfield's fifth-inning double finally put the Razorbacks on the board, scoring Carson Shaddy from first.

Much like Ole Miss on Saturday and Sunday, ULM responded in the sixth.

Teague, the only Arkansas pitcher to have any trouble, gave up back-to-back singles to start the inning, before a sacrifice fly by Cade Stone tied the game.

The Warhawks (13-20) threatened to take the lead, but stranded a runner on third when Teague got Jacob Stockton to fly out.

The Razorbacks answered in the seventh with a sacrifice fly by Cullen Gassaway and added an insurance run in the eighth on a pinch-hit RBI single by Darien Simms.

Alberius (3-0), who struck out four of the six batters he faced, earned the win, while Willey worked a perfect ninth inning to earn his second save of the season.

Arkansas returns to Baum Stadium for a three-game series against No. 2 Florida beginning Thursday.
