Fresh off another visit to Arkansas, one of the state’s top prospects now has a date when he will announce the college of his choice.
Ashdown safety Montaric Brown (6-1, 180, 4.5), the most highly-recruited 2017 prospect in Arkansas, will let every one know right before his season starts.
“I have decided that I am going to announce my commitment on my birthday August 24th,” Brown said. “That way I can have out of the way and I can concentrate on the season.”
Brown has 10 offers from Arkansas, Alabama, LSU, Auburn, Oklahoma, Oklahoma State, Baylor, Tulsa, Arkansas State and Texas San-Antonio.
All those have come after a junior season in which he had 112 tackles last season, 5 interceptions (3 he returned for touchdowns), 4 tackles for lost yardage, 8 pass break ups and a forced fumble.
Brown’s most recent offers were from Oklahoma and Tulsa and he visited Arkansas Saturday along with Ashdown sophomore cornerback LaDarrius Bishop, who recently got his first offer from Baylor.
“I have now been to see Arkansas twice, Alabama, LSU, Oklahoma State and Tulsa,” Brown said. “I think I’ve gotten a pretty good look at all of them.”
Brown, whose team will open its 2016 slate at Monticello on Sept. 2, was very excited about his Saturday visit to see Arkansas’ Red-White game.
“I loved it,” Brown said. It really feels like home to me. I felt comfortable and the players, coaches and fans really made me feel like I was a Hog already.”
Brown cornerback got a chance to visit with Razorback head coach Bret Bielema, defensive coordinator Robb Smith and new secondary coach Paul Rhoads, the former Iowa State head coach.
“I really have a great feeling being around those coaches and know they care a lot about me,” Brown said. “Coach B has made it clear to me how much he wants me to be a part of the program and how important of a recruit that I am to him.
“I also got a chance to meet with Coach Rhodes and really like him. He really knows what he is doing and I know he will be a great coach for me.”
