One of the state’s best junior defensive players is at Arkansas camp this week looking to get better.
Fordyce defensive tackle Billy Ferrell (6-4, 300) is among some 400 prospects on hand for the Razorbacks’ three-day high school camp that started Sunday afternoon.
“I hope to accomplish learning some defensive and offensive techniques,” Ferrell said. “Different tackle techniques and stuff like that.”
Ferrell had 65 tackles, 23 for lost yardage, four sacks, 12 quarterback hurries, three forced fumbles and three pass deflections as a sophomore, is excited about the interest he is getting from his home-state Razorbacks.
“Just Arkansas is the one I know is interested,” Ferrell said. “It is actually fun to know that Arkansas is interested in me and is bringing me out football-wise.”
Ferrell, who also hit .300 in baseball and led his basketball team in field goal and free throw percentage this season, is hoping to earn an offer from Arkansas during this camp.
“It means a lot,” noted Ferrell, who plans to concentrate on football from now on.
Ferrell, who has a 265 bench press and 500 squat knows he is nowhere near reaching his potential.
“I have a whole lot of improvement to do,” Ferrell said. “I can run down little running backs. I need to get stronger.”
