After getting the opportunity to work out twice in front of Arkansas’ coaches in as many weeks, Bald Knob senior athlete DeShawn Gulledge now has an opportunity to be a Razorback if he so desires.
Gulledge (5-10, 170, 4.42), who had a combined 2,100 yards and 26 touchdowns rushing and receiving last season, was offered the opportunity Sunday to be a preferred walk on for the Razorbacks beginning in 2017.
Razorback head coach Bret Bielema and his staff were on hand to see Gulledge at the All-Arkansas Camp in Little Rock on June 5 and had the chance to see him test on Sunday at their own three-day camp that goes through Tuesday.
"It was a preferred walk-on offer," Gulledge said. "After I had a good testing yesterday Coach (Bielema) was talking to me. It goes back to the All-Arkansas Camp they just loved how I competed.
“I'm always working hard and showing up to the campus. They just called me in and told me they would love to have me."
He admits the chance to play for Arkansas has been in the back of his mind for a long time.
"It has been a dream," Gulledge said. "It gives me chills every time I think about it. It's the home state and a bigger university. The facilities are outstanding and I would love to play here.”
Gulledge does have four scholarship offers from Arkansas-Monticello, Ouachita Baptist, Arkansas Tech and Kentucky Christian.
"I have got speed and I'm shifty," Gulledge said. "My routes have upgraded completely, my foot work is getting better. My vision and shiftiness are my strengths I think."
