Otis' Wednesday Arkansas Razorback Recruiting Chatter

Arkansas will have a long list of visitors this weekend. Many will be from Texas. Also some basketball news may be nearing on a recruit and pair of current players.

Arkansas will host a larger group of recruits for this weekend's scrimmage than maybe they have the past couple of weekends. The April 1 weekend had around 15 and it appeared last weekend was less than 10. This weekend the number is going to be closer to 20-25 it appears.

A large group of recruits from Texas are headed to the Hill this weekend. Many are also looking at Oklahoma State on Friday before heading to Fayetteville.

While many of the visitors are 2019 or even 2020, there's a very interesting prospect from the Class of 2018. Dallas (Texas) Highland Park quarterback John Stephen Jones is the son of former Razorback Steve who lettered from 1984-87. His grandfather is obviously Jerry Jones who is the owner of the Dallas Cowboys. Jerry was part of the 1964 national championship team at Arkansas. He lettered fom 1962-64. At that time freshmen were ineligible to play on the varsity.

The younger Jones is just 5-foot-10, 175-pounds, so he won't be getting a scholarship offer from the Hogs. However, he would seem to be a very good walk-on invite. As a junior, Jones led his team to the state title while completing 207 of 353 passes for 3,054 yards and 29 touchdowns. He also rushed 145 times for 297 yards and nine touchdowns. Jones attended one of the Arkansas camps this past summer.

Other 2018 visitors confirmed are:

Trace Oldner, OL, Richmond (Texas) Foster, 6-5, 280. This visit was previously reported on Hawgs247. He has an offer to Indiana, McNeese State and Stephen F. Austin. He was at Oklahoma last weekend and has been a regular at Arkansas' summer camps.

Nigel Brannon, OL, Oklahoma City (Okla.) John Marshall, 6-5, 333. He holds offers to TCU and South Dakota State. Has a chance to be very good in college.

Jackson Kimble, OL, Southlake (Texas) Carrol, 6-5, 275. This was also previously reported by Hawgs247. He's committed to Baylor, but will spend Friday and Saturday in Fayetteville. A 3-star recruit.

Bumper Pool, LB, Lucas (Texas) Lovejoy, 6-2 1/1, 213. Committed to Arkansas and is one of the best in the nation at his position. A 4-star recruit who may go up in the rankings even more.

Other 2019 visitors are:

Preston Wilson, DT, Argyle (Texas), 6-3, 240. Talented recruit from same school as Cole Hedlund.

Kyron White, S, Arlington (Texas), 5-10, 179. Holds Baylor offer. 119 tackles, one sack, one forced fumble and three interceptions as a sophomore.

Chance Cover, ILB, Fort Worth (Texas) Nolan Catholic, 6-1, 215. Talented linebacker who covers a lot of territory.

Kyron Cumby, RB, Plano (Texas). 5-7, 160. Rushed 124 times for 1,095 yards and 11 touchdowns while also catching 13 passes for 190 yards and two touchdowns.

Austin Rodriguez, C, Plano (Texas) Prestonwood Christian, 6-2, 285. Very good blocker who reminds me some of Zach Rogers.

Ben Mason, OG, Lucas Lovejoy, Texas, 6-2, 274. Teammate of Pool. Holds an early offer from Southern Miss.

Sloan Henry, QB, Keller, Texas, 6-3, 220. Strong-armed quarterback who has a good upside.

Other 2020 visitors:

DJ Graham, WR, Keller (Texas) Central, 6-0, 170. Caught 36 passes for 527 yards and three touchdowns as a sophomore.

More Aledo (Texas) vistors:

Yesterday, it was reported in this column that Aledo Class of 2019 cornerback Brannon Webb would visit. He will be joined by some teammates. They will stop at Oklahoma State on Friday and then the Hogs on Saturday. Webb has also visited Texas A&M and Baylor recently.

Others from Aledo:

Jase McClellan, RB, 5-9 1/2, 194, 2020. This stud has 10 offers already. Such schools as Baylor, Oklahoma, SMU, Georgia, Houston, Miami, Oklahoma State, Oregon, TCU, SMU and Texas A&M. As a freshman, he rushed 202 times for 1,528 yards and 20 touchdowns.

Jeffery Carter, WR-CB, 6-0, 180, 20019. On offense, caught 12 passes for 217 yards and five touchdowns. At corner, 14 tackles, one tackle for loss, two pass breakups and one interception.

Monterren Parks, WR, 5-11, 172, 2020. A fourth one from Aledo at Arkansas this weekend.

Hoops Update

Arkansas offered Las Vegas (Nev.) Trinity International Prep Class of 2017 power forward Kenny Wooten, 6-8, 210. He is a 4-star recruit who decommitted from Arizona State yesterday. The Hogs offered the same day. He is drawing a lot of interest. He is the No. 129 in the Top247 for 2017. The Hogs are also hard on Farmington (Mich.) North Farmington 3-star point guard Amauri Hardy who was once committed to Oklahoma State. He will visit Arkansas this weekend.

According to various sources, Daryl Macon and Jaylen Barford will test the NBA Draft waters, but not hire an agent. No official statement has come from anyone at Arkansas on this, but the sources say the decision was made last week. The sources also indicate that while Barford will likely come back they aren't as sure on Macon. There's some feeling Macon could head to Europe instead of play his senior season with the Hogs. The NBA allows players to enter the draft and then withdraw and head back to college if they don't sign with an agent. Moses Kingsley did that last year.

As noted, this is from sources, but still nothing official at this point from the University of Arkansas.
