Ashdown speedster LaDarrius Bishop talks summer plans, how track helps football

Ashdown cornerback LaDarrius Bishop is one of the state's top prospects with 10 offers.

RUSSELLVILLE, Ark.-- Ashdown (Ark.) 3-star cornerback LaDarrius Bishop was among the top athletes competing at the 2017 Meet of Champs on Saturday. Bishop is one of the state's top football recruits in the Class of 2018.

Bishop was outstanding at the state track meet recently and knew Saturday's event would be one that would create huge competition.

"I feel like I will get pushed more here," Bishop said prior to his events.

He finished fourth in the 100-meter dash with a time of 11.19. North Little Rock's Kennedy Lightner took both the 100- and 200-meter dashes.

Despite not winning his events, track provides a good boost to Bishop's football skills.

"It keeps me in shape," Bishop said. "Gets me ready for spring ball and the season. It keeps me in top shape."

Bishop holds offers from Arkansas, Mississippi State, Oklahoma State, Arkansas State, Baylor, Illinois, Iowa State, Louisiana-Monroe, Memphis and Purdue. He talked about his plans for the summer.

"Keep working out and go on a few visits," Bishop said. "I plan to take another visit to Arkansas soon. I don't know where else I will visit yet."

Do you plan to narrow your list down some this summer, make a decision or what?

"I plan to make a decision this summer," Bishop said.

What are your strengths on the football field?

"My route running and coverage on defense," Bishop said. "Just seeing the field...my vision."

His cousin, 4-star safety Montaric Brown, signed with Arkansas in February. Bishop said Brown will report to Arkansas in June. Despite losing Brown and some other key players, Bishop talked about the Panthers in 2017. They return quarterback Jaden Hill and athlete Tre Green as well as others.

"We will be pretty good," Bishop said. "We've just got to keep a good work ethic and keep working hard like we are right now."

The OK Take-- Bishop is the most underrated recruit in Arkansas. He is one who should see a bump in the ratings going forward. He could be a standout on offense or defense in college. He will play cornerback, but at wide receiver he would be equally dangerous. Bishop combines outstanding speed with great vision. One to watch and hopefully see him climb in recruiting rankings.
