Arkansas Defeats SW Texas State, 90-68

Arkansas went back to its full-court pressure defense and forced 31 turnovers is coasting to a 90-68 victory over Southwest Texas State Tuesday.

The Razorbacks (4-2) set season highs for points scored, three-point buckets (15), assists (21), turnovers forced, shots made (32) and blocked shots (four).

Arkansas shot 44 percent from the floor and SWT was close at 40 percent, but the Razorbacks took 22 more shots (72-50) and made 12 more (32-20).

UA scored 24 of the game's first 26 points but the Bobcats (2-4) cut the margin to 10, 30-20, and trailed by just 13 at the half, 41-28.

Clay Click, who had a game-high 23 points, hit a three-pointer to get head coach Dennis Nutt's club within 45-35 with 17:26 to play, but Jannero Pargo answered with a three of his own. SWT was within 52-40, but the Hogs scored eight straight points, six by freshman Michael Jones, to put the game away.

Pargo and Brandon Dean scored a season-high 21 points each. Dean, who was one point away from matching his career high, was 10 of 18 from the field, setting personal bests for shots taken and made. Dean also matched his career high with two blocked shots.

Pargo was seven of 13 from the floor, including seven of 12 from beyond the arc, setting a career high for treys made.

"We really played the first 13 to 14 minutes," head coach Nolan Richardson said. "Our defense was tremendous. That dictated the rest of the game. I couldn't have asked them to play any better. I saw some really good things from these guys tonight."

J.J. Sullinger added 11 points and Teddy Gipson 10. T.J. Cleveland had nine points, four assists and six steals. Dionisio Gomez and Larry Satchell had seven rebounds each.

Arkansas plays at No. 2 Illinois on Saturday in Chicago. The 11 a.m. game will be televised nationally by ESPN.
