Downey sets his five hoop visits

South Carolina point guard will take five visits in as many weekends as he ponders where he will play his college basketball.

There have been a ton of teams showing interest in South Carolina prep point guard, but only five are going to get official visits.

The 5-10, 160-pound star from Chester, S.C., said Tuesday that he will go on a whirlwind tour of five campuses and then come up with a decision on who he will sign with in November.

First up is Tennessee (Aug. 27-29) to be followed by Maryland (Sept. 3-5), Arkansas (Sept. 10-12) , Cincinnati (Sept. 17-19) and finishing up with Miami (Sept. 24-26). South Carolina also count be ruled out.

"I really am going to be looking at this thing from a basketball standpoint because I think at all of those schools I could get a great education," Downey said. "It will be just about what is the best situation for me."

Downey, regarded as the 38th best player in the country by The Insiders, averaged 27 points, 6 assists and 4.5 rebounds while leading his squad into the state championship game.

He followed that up with a sparkling summer on the AAU circuit while leading the South Carolina Ravens.

"I think the summer went well and now I can start concentrating a little bit on this recruiting," Downey said. "They are all great schools."
