UA Welcomes Top Prospects

Some 60 basketball and football prospects are scheduled to arrive in Fayetteville during this weekend as the University of Arkansas prepares for its football game with Texas.

A win over No. 7 Texas would no doubt jumpstart the University of Arkansas' football season, but it could also have a big impact on the futures of both the grid and hoops programs at the school.

That's because there are some 60 prospects - 58 of which are football ones - that will be on hand for the contest.

South Carolina prep point guard Devan Downey (5-10, 160) is the only player who will be on official visit, but he will have plenty of company with so many others in Fayetteville on unofficial treks.

"I'm really looking forward to seeing what it's all about," Downey said. "I'm told there it is going to be a great weekend and a great atmosphere."

That atmosphere is something that UA football recruiting coordinator Chris Vaughn is eager to display.

"It's going to be an exciting time and it's an opportunity for all these young men to see what we have going here," Vaughn said. "We all know the biggest thing we could do to impress them is to go out and win the football game and that's what we are all about this weekend."
