Batesville offensive lineman Drew Hilton (6-4, 295) hopes Arkansas coaches decide to offer him a scholarship after his performance last week at the Houston Nutt Football Camp.

One of the young men who may have positioned himself for a scholarship offer at last week's Houston Nutt Football Camp was Batesville offensive lineman Drew Hilton.

Hilton (6-4, 295, 5.4) attended the Arkansas camp and hopes an offer is forthcoming after giving Razorback coaches a good look at him.

"Arkansas has not offered me yet, but I think there is a good chance they might," Hilton said. "I sure hope they do. They are obviously the school I have grown up supporting. I think I did pretty good at the camp."

Hilton was at Mississippi State on Sunday and is likely to take in camps at Tulsa and LSU soon.

"None of those schools have offered yet, but I think I am doing myself a lot of good by getting out and being seen," Hilton said. "They are all showing interest and now I just have to show them I am worthy of one."

Hilton said Arkansas offensive line coach Mike Markuson worked with him on his fundamentals while at the Razorback camp.

"Coach Markuson really worked with me on staying low and not coming off while driving with my blocks," Hilton said. "It's very to come out with your pad level low and stay that way instead of giving the defensive guy an advantage by popping up."

Hilton has been a key to Batesville success the past two seasons with the Pioneers going 13-0-1 and winning the state championship in 2003 and following that up with a 10-2 mark in the 2004 campaign that ended with a second round loss to Pulaski Robinson.

"I think it really helped getting our defensive coordinator Coach (Stu) Smith back and we started working harder and leaving it all out there," Hilton said. "We also have a new weight room that has helped us out a lot."

Hilton, who has bench pressed 330 pounds and squatted 450, has pinpointed his strengths and weaknesses.

"I think the best part of my game is coming off the ball with some explosion and I'm pretty strong also," Hilton said. "But I need to still work on my pass blocking and my footwork and keep getting better at that."

There has been some speculation that Hilton would commit right away to Arkansas if offered by the Razorbacks.

"I would certainly take that very serious and consider very much making a commitment," Hilton said. "It certainly would be a tough decision because they certainly are leading with me right now. It would be very, very tempting to do right away."
