Lady'Back Camps In Full Swing

FAYETTEVILLE -- Summer time means sport camps are in full force.

The Arkansas Lady Razorbacks, headed by coach Susie Gardner, are in the middle of their five-camp session which began on June 5 with an individual camp.

Beginning today, Gardner and her staff welcome upper-level players from around the state and the region to their Elite Camp, lasting until Friday at both Bud Walton Arena and Barnhill Arena on the Arkansas campus.

"With the Elite Camp we want elite players and hopefully we are out to get kids who want to come to the University of Arkansas," Gardner said.

Registration for the Elite Camp runs from 1-2:30 p.m. for those who have already returned a registration form

On Thursday through Saturday, the Lady'Backs will host their second position camp of the summer. The camp, a new addition this year, will be divided into guard, wing and post positions and is open to athletes entering grades 4-8.

"From what I have explored, the best way to run a camp in Northwest Arkansas is to hit every age group, ability and intensity level," Gardner said.

The last camp Gardner and the Lady'Backs will host is a team camp July 22-24, which includes no instruction from the Lady'Back coaching staff, but allows junior high, junior varsity and senior high varsity teams to compete with schools they maybe unfamiliar.

Gardner said she has a nice representation from out of state school who come to Fayetteville to face different competition.

The Elite Camp costs $180 overnight or $150 for \ not staying in the dorms. Meals are provided for both overnight and day campers.

The position camp is $125 and $100 and the team camp is $150 and $50, but meals are not included for day campers.

"One thing about women's basketball is that the players are accessible," Gardner said. "We are role models to these kids. It is different for them to sit in the 10th row and being here, working with our players and assistant coaches."
