Springdale offensive lineman Bartley Webb has eliminated Arkansas and Texas and is on the verge of committing to Notre Dame while the Razorbacks could hear from the other four of the Springdale 5 very soon according to their head coach.

It appears Touchdown Jesus - or at least former New England assistant Charlie Weis - has snuck into Arkansas and taken out one of the state's best players while four of his teammates could be announcing their decisions in the near future.

Springdale offensive lineman Bartley Webb confirmed Wednesday night that he had eliminated Arkansas and Texas from this recruiting mix leaving just Notre Dame among his final three contenders.

Webb (6-7, 285) - who has been to Notre Dame three times this spring and summer and has talked openly about his respect for the school and new head coach Charlie Weis - said has not officially committed to the Fighting Irish just yet with that likely coming in person.

While Webb did not want to be quoted about the decision just yet, Springdale high school coach Gus Malzahn did comment at the conclusion of the Top Gun QB1 Quarterback Challenge in Springdale.

"My understanding is that he has not committed, but probably will in the next week or so," Malzahn said. "It is also my understanding that he has told Arkansas that they are not a part of his final decision."

Webb is one of five Springdale players that have amassed nearly 100 scholarship offers from schools - with all five being offered by both Arkansas and Michigan State.

Quarterback Mitch Mustain (6-3, 200), wideouts Andrew Norman (6-2, 180) and Damian Williams (6-1, 180) and tight end Ben Cleveland (6-4, 230) are the others.

Malzahn and those four guys will all be in Hoover, Ala., this weekend to try and defend their 7-on-7 regional championship.

"I would suspect before the season the decisions of the other guys will come also," Malzahn said. " I know once the season starts we will want to be thinking about our Bulldog football team. I assume in the next two or three weeks things will start happening with the other guys also."
