Cool Coppage

Alexandria (La.) wideout Will Coppage - also a standout long jumper - is still waiting for an football offer from Arkansas to join the track one he has from the Razorbacks and the grid ones from Texas A&M and Ole Miss.

It's a three-horse race for Alexandria (La.) track star and wideout Will Coppage, but he is hoping one of the horses steps up and shows its full colors soon.

Coppage, a 6-3, 180-pound wideout and top-notch long jumper with a best of 24-3, has a track offer from Arkansas and football ones from Texas A&M and Ole Miss.

"The Arkansas coaches told me at their camp that they were planning on offering me one and it would come in the mail, later on," Coppage said. "I hope Arkansas does offer me soon."

Coppage, teammates with fellow UA recruit and star running back Chris Brown, attended Houston Nutt's Seniors Only camp back on July 22-23.

"It's a great place with great facilities and I really like both the football and track programs," Coppage said. "I am definitely going to do both."

Right now Coppage, who had 26 passes for 636 yards and 7 touchdowns in his first year playing high school football, has plans to take official visits to all three of the aforementioned schools.

He is not of the mind right now to go ahead and pull the trigger should that UA football offer come through.

"They are all pretty equal right now," Coppage said. "I'll go on official visits to all three and then make my decision after then. I'm going to try and do that during the season."

Brown, who has rushed for over 4,000 yards since he began playing high school football as a ninth grader, has current favorites are Arkansas, Alabama and Oklahoma.

"I know he likes those three and he's planning on taking his official visits also," Coppage said. "It would be great to play college ball with him, but we'll just have to see."

Alexandria went 10-2 last season and has high hopes for winning the state title this season.

"We've got a lot of guys back and we're trying to help the new ones that are coming in and taking over the open spots," Coppage said. "Chris and I have both been trying to show a lot of leadership."
