Four University of Arkansas tennis players have been named to the 2002 Southeastern Conference Men's Tennis Academic Honor Roll, which was released Tuesday by the league office.
Tiago Azevedo, Oskar Johansson, Tim Shuler and Henrik Tofft made the list for Arkansas. Johansson, Shuler and Tofft completed their eligibility last year with Johansson going 28-11, earning a No. 1 singles ranking by the Intercollegiate Tennis Association and All-America honors. Shuler was 10-7 last year and Tofft, who played doubles with Johansson in the NCAA Tournament, was 14-13. Azevedo, a senior on this year's team which is 14-8 and ranked No. 21 in the nation heading into this week's SEC Tournament at Tennessee, is 11-14.
Azevedo, Shuler and Tofft also made the 2001 honor roll along with Aleksey Bubis, and Shuler and Tofft each graduated last year with Shuler earning his bachelor's in kinesiology and Tofft his bachelor's in journalism. To be eligible for the award, a student-athlete must: 1) have a 3.0 grade point average for either the past year or for their career; 2) be a sophomore or higher in academic classification; and 3) have 24 semester hours countable toward a degree. The 2002 honor roll is based on grades from the 2000-2001 academic calendar.
All four were also named to UA's Lon Farrell Academic Honor Roll, which requires a 3.0 GPA or higher in the spring or fall semester, or both.
