Wendell Davis knew he was going to be playing his college football at the U of A.
After this weekend, he was sure of which one.
Davis, a 6-1, 205-pound linebacker from Sweeny, Texas, announced Sunday afternoon that he had chosen the University of Arkansas over the University of Arizona.
"I just liked the fans, the stadium and the rest of the facilities, the coaches - just the whole package," Davis said. "I knew to start off with it was going to come down to Arkansas and Arizona. When I got to Arkansas, it was an easy choice."
Davis, whose cousin current Razorback Shedrick Johnson is a current Razorback, said he has been told that he will get a chance to play early.
"I've got to come in and work hard but there is that opportunity with the guys they have coming back to have a shot to come in and play early," Davis said. "I'm a big-hitter, but I think its my ability to make plays that is my biggest strength."
He said that cousin Shedrick handled his recruiting to Arkansas just the right way.
"He didn't pressure me, just told me about all the great things that are about to happen at Arkansas and he hoped I would want to be a part of it," Davis said. "I am."
Davis also had scholarship offers from UTEP, New Mexico and Tulsa.
He will be playing for Arkansas defensive coordinator Reggie Herring.
"Coach Herring is very, very intense," Davis said. "I like the fact that something is going to push me to be my best and not let me slack up at any time. I am looking forward to it."

Malcolm Sheppard, a 6-3, 260-pound defensive tackle from Bainbridge, Ga., basically said Sunday night that he was ready to commit, but that he just needed to talk to his family about it first.
"I have some (other visits) scheduled but I might not be making them, I might be committing to Arkansas," Sheppard said. "I'll most likely be committing this week. The chance to play for coach (Tracy) Rocker, a hall of famer, I'm jumping at that chance."
Sheppard also said he wanted to play somewhere where there was a lot of attention focused on one place, like with the Razorbacks in Arkansas.
"It's a whole state where everything is focused on UA," Sheppard said. "There's no pro teams."
