West nears decision

With the mid-term junior college signing date looming next Wednesday, Arkansas appears to be in great shape with safety John West (6-2, 190, 4.4) of North Dakota State College of Science.

John West is still thinking about coming South, but he's got one more visit to get out of the way first.

West (6-2, 190, 4.4), a hard-hitting safety from North Dakota State College of Science who visited Arkansas on Dec. 2-4, will trek to Iowa State this weekend.

"There coaches have been very nice to me so I am going to go ahead and take the visit," West said Friday morning, "But it's going to be awfully hard for anything to top what I found in Arkansas, which has everything I need."

West, a mid-term graduate who will sign next Wednesday on the national signing date of Dec. 21, said he won't take long to announce his decision.

"I'm going to take this visit, sir, and then I'll be ready to tell everybody," West said. "it's going to be good to get it over with."

West, who will be able to go through spring practice at the college of his choice, was still raving about his trip to Arkansas when contacted on Friday.

"I just felt so, so comfortable there," West said. "I loved the fans, the coaches, all the facilities and just the whole atmosphere. Not to mention it was nice and warm (with highs of 71) while I was there. I am tired of being in the cold."

West, who also considered Minnesota and Kansas State, is a former prep standout at Oak Creek High School just outside of Milwaukee.

He's not just a signature away from playing major college football.

"It's just going to be a dream come true," West said. "I can't wait to get there and get started."
