New Razorbacks

Hawgs Illustrated will update the University of Arkansas signees throughout the day as they become official.

The University of Arkansas football program heads into today's national signing day with a ton of momentum and just hoping to get all the 26 commits - and possibly a 27th - it has lined up down on paper by the end of the day.

By 4 p.m. when Razorback head coach Houston Nutt meets the media to discuss the class, he should be a happy camper.

That's because he will have signed the number prep quarterback in the country in Springdale's Mitch Mustain (6-3, 210, 4.6), one of the top wideouts in Springdale's Damian Williams 6-1, 180, 4.4) and four junior college defenders who should make an immediate impact.

Those include NEO defensive end Chris Wade (6-6, 255, 4.6), Trinity Valley Community College defensive tackle Freddie Barnett (6-2, 305) and Alfred State (NY) CC free safety Matt Hewitt (6-3, 205) to go along with mid-term signee John West (6-2, 190, 4.4),

"We've really worked hard as a staff and things and feel real good about what we have gotten done," Arkansas head coach Houston Nutt said.

Heading into signing day, Scout.com has Arkansas' class of commitments ranked No. 8 in the Southeastern Conference and No. 30 nationally.

Florida is No. 1, followed by Texas, Southern California, Notre Dame and Georgia. Other SEC schools ranked above Arkansas include LSU (7), Auburn (11), Ole Miss (12), Alabama (20) and Tennessee (21).

South Carolina (33), Kentucky (34), Mississippi State (37) and Vanderbilt (58) are ranked behind Arkansas.

The Razorbacks could add another on signing day as Houston Eisenhower cornerback Mister Alexander said Tuesday he would choose between Arkansas and Florida State at 9 a.m.

The signees can begin inking their letter-of-intents as soon as 8 a.m. in their own time zone.

Hawgs Illustrated will be updating the status of those letter-of-intents as they become official today in both this story and on the HI recruting message board.
