"This is a critical week with your ball club," Nutt said. "We want to keep people on the field yet you still want to be physical. We'll probably scrimmage a little bit tomorrow afternoon, and do a lot of tackling and blocking."
Sunday's practices were geared to the fundamentals of the game.
"Today was fundamentals," Nutt said. "A lot was on the kicking game, the punt, punt return, kickoff teams, extra point, PAT and field goals. Offensively we worked on some shotgun formations with some options and defensively put in a few more blitzes."
Nutt noted the play of the punt return team, especially the play of Dedrick Poole, Lawrence Richardson and Decori Birmingham.
"Punt returners looked good today - Lawrence Richardson, Decori Birmingham and Dedrick Poole," Nutt said. "Those three guys are working it right now. Right now we're going to see how they can do. The one thing is you know guys like George Wilson can go out there and catch it. You like to give George a little bit of rest and not have to worry about that and put a Birmingham or Richardson out there - if they can handle it."
Nutt was pleased with the accomplishments of the shell workout sessions that concluded on Sunday.
"I think we got a lot accomplished," Nutt said. "You hate to see Marvin Jackson go down. Carlos Ousley sprained a ligament in his thumb yesterday, but hopefully he won't miss too much."
