Wood Considered Among FIU's Five Leading Cand

FAYETTEVILLE -- While Arkansas coach Houston Nutt has been rumored for several job openings, one of his assistants has emerged as a top candidate for a head coaching position.

Quarterbacks coach Alex Wood is considered to be among the five leading candidates to replace Don Strock as Florida International's coach, according to a story in Tuesday's edition of the Miami Herald.

Wood is considered to be among a small group of candidates that includes Georgia defensive coordinator Willie Martinez, Miami defensive coordinator Randy Shannon, Miami offensive line coach Mario Cristobal and former Miami offensive coordinator Rob Chudzinski.

According to the Miami Herald report, FIU athletic director Pete Garcia said the interview process is ongoing.

Nutt confirmed earlier this month that Wood has spoken with FIU officials about the job opening. Strock announced Nov. 15 that he will resign as the school's coach at the end of the season.
