A guy who has a last name that is quite famous in University of Arkansas sports lore could be making a name for himself in Fayetteville as well.
Ryan Broyles, a 5-11, 170-pound wideout/cornerback from Norman (Okla.) High with 4.4 speed in the 40-yard dash, took his official visit to the UA this weekend and left impressed.
He got to spend a lot of his time with Arkansas offensive coordinator Gus Malzahn.
"I really liked it a lot," Broyles said. "I really got a chance to get to know Coach Malzahn this weekend, we got a chance to talk about things and I really felt comfortable with him."
Broyles, who said he was in the state of Arkansas for the first time, said that Malzahn is planning on him playing wideout for the Razorbacks if he signs with the UA.
He caught 44 passes for 908 yards this past season, also rushed for over 400 yards and had 6 interceptions and 24 total touchdowns for a 9-2 squad.
"I told him that I would love to play wide receiver for them, especially since I know they are going to be passing the ball more next season," Broyles said. "But I also told him that I would be fine playing anywhere. I'll just play what I need to in order to get on the field fastest and help the team."
Broyles was among six recruits that visited Arkansas this weekend with three uncommitted and three already having pledged to sigh with Arkansas.
We all went out to Coach Malzahns house on Saturday night and had dinner with him and his wife, who is really nice, and some of the players, Broyles said. We watched the Heisman ceremony and the (Jermain Taylor) boxing match. I just felt very, very comfortable around them all.
Broyles has now visited Arkansas, Texas A&M, Michigan State and Texas Tech and will take his fifth visit to Tennessee on Jan. 12-14.
He also has some interest in Oklahoma State.
"I don't want to say I really have a leader until I have taken all five visits, but I will say that I really enjoyed my time at Arkansas and it is a place I could definitely see myself playing and being comfortable. I think they are doing some great things there now."
