Schools Coming Calling For Williams

FAYETTEVILLE -- Former Arkansas wide receiver Damian Williams is essentially going through the recruiting process for a second time.

Kansas contacted Arkansas on Wednesday to seek permission to speak with Williams, adding another school to the growing list of teams interested in the former Springdale High star.

Fellow Big 12 schools Baylor, Colorado, Missouri and Texas Tech have also contacted Arkansas about Williams, who announced last week that he was transferring after only one season at Arkansas.

But since Arkansas coach Houston Nutt has agreed to release Williams from his scholarship, schools don't necessarily need to go through Arkansas to speak with the freshman.

Williams has a copy of his release, which means he's free to talk with other schools. If he decides to transfer to another Division I-A school, though, he will have to sit out a year.

Williams finished the regular season second on the No. 12 Razorbacks with 235 yards receiving, and his 19 catches were tied with fullback Peyton Hillis for second on the team. Williams also scored two touchdowns.
