Ervin Enters Record Books
Ervin — a 6-foot-3 junior — is in her first season at Arkansas after transferring from Mt. Sac Junior College. But it didn't take this new Lady'Back long to break through the school record books, which is just what she did Sunday. Finishing with 19 points and 13 rebounds in Arkansas' 65-62 win at Auburn, it was Ervin's shooting touch that stood out the most, as the junior post set an SEC school record by going 9-for-9 from the field. The previous record for shooting percentage in an SEC game by someone with more than just a few attempts was held by Blair Savage, who finished 8-for-9 in a a conference game in 1992. Arkansas' opponent that day when Savage previously set the mark? You guessed it, Auburn. Double Trouble Ervin might also enter the school record books for another feat before this season is over. While records have not always been kept on the school mark for double-doubles in a single year, it is believed that Ervin is nearing new heights. Currently, the junior has seven double-doubles on the season, including two in SEC play. Let ‘Er Fly Dominique Washington came close to setting a record of her own Sunday. Hitting seven 3-pointers, Washington ended the game just two shy of the school mark, held by Wendi Willits. Willits hit nine 3-pointers in a 98-82 loss at Georgia during the 1998-99 season. Up Next... Arkansas returns to Bud Walton Arena at 7 p.m. Thursday and will be looking for its first SEC home win of the season when Alabama pays a visit to Fayetteville. Following Thursday's tilt, Arkansas is back out on the road with a trip to Florida on Sunday.
