Houston Nutt updates the two-deep in the offensive line after Thursday's workout. The Hogs had a backup in the offensive line leave the team.

Arkansas went through a shortened workout Thrusday in full pads that pleased head coach Houston Nutt.

"We had a good day, and got some things corrected over yesterday," Nutt said. "I thought we improved today. It was a good mental day."

Nutt had been displeased with parts of Wednesday's workout, and had the team repeat a significant part of that workout. He seemed to cut things short on Thursday, perhaps as a reward for intense mental concentration that was evident.

Nutt said that backup offensive guard Jim Peters had quit the team earlier in the day.

"He elected to leave our team," Nutt said. "He is a good person and we wish him well. He came here his first season after signing for a scholarship and paid his own way to help our team. We will pay for his scholarship for the rest of this year. We wish Jim Peters well."

Nutt said that he feels good about the depth on the offensive line, and that the Hogs were in good shape there.

"Zac Tubbs is our first tackle off the bench on either side," Nutt said. "He's had a good camp.

"Nathan Ball is the first guard off the bench on either side. He's done well and he knows left and right guard. We moved Jerry Reith to guard, too, and he's had an exceptional camp. He's done what we've asked and could play guard if we needed him."

Nutt said Tony Ugoh is the backup at left tackle, and has done well but missed several days of practice during the middle of two-a-days and fell behind a bit.

"I think if Tony hadn't missed those practices ... about four in two days ... then he'd be able to give us what we need at left tackle," Nutt said. "But, right now, we'd go with Zac first. In time this year, Tony might catch him and we'd change that."

Eddie Jackson practiced Thursday after sitting out Wednesday in a boot cast because of an ankle sprain. Jackson did not appear to be full speed.

The Hogs will practice under the lights of Reynolds Razorback Stadium on Friday night. Practice time is 7:30 p.m. Saturday's morning practice will be closed to the public.
