Father: Norman Intends To Transfer

FAYETTEVILLE -- Former Springdale High wide receiver Andrew Norman has indicated to Arkansas coach Houston Nutt that he intends to transfer to another school, possibly the University of Tulsa, Norman's father confirmed Wednesday.

Norman has asked for a release from his scholarship, but Nutt wanted the redshirt freshman to spend Wednesday night thinking it over before Nutt granted him a release.
"Andrew has requested a transfer and Coach Nutt has asked him to sleep on it tonight," Robert Norman said Wednesday. "We're going to look at two, three or four schools here pretty quickly.
"We have nothing but great things to say about the Razorbacks."
Norman's father indicated that Tulsa is among the handful of schools that his son is considering. Gus Malzahn, who was Andrew Norman's high school coach at Springdale, is set to begin his first season as the co-offensive coordinator with the Golden Hurricane.
If Norman transfers, he'll be the third highly touted player from Springdale High to transfer from Arkansas since December.
Both quarterback Mitch Mustain and wide receiver Damian Williams -- who teamed with Norman to lead Springdale High to a state championship as a senior in 2005 -- transferred to the University of Southern California after spending last season with the Razorbacks.
Should Norman leave, tight end Ben Cleveland would be the only one of the four Springdale High stars who signed with Arkansas in February of 2006 to still be on the team.
The Razorbacks are set to open preseason practices Saturday.
Andrew Norman redshirted last season, and there were no guarantees that he'd work his way into the lineup this season. He bulked up in the offseason, and he got some opportunities in the spring to show off his playmaking ability.
But after senior Marcus Monk, there is a cluster of wide receivers who will be competing over the next few weeks for playing time this season.
A message left on Norman's cell phone Wednesday night was not returned.
