Mortensen has decided to rejoin the Razorbacks as a walk-on after transferring to Samford University last summer.
Arkansas coach Houston Nutt had told Mortensen that he'd be welcomed back, and the quarterback decided a few days ago to take the coach up on the offer.
"He's really excited to be back," said Chris Mortensen, Alex's father and an ESPN NFL analyst. "This is a matter of the heart, and his heart has always been with the Razorbacks."
Alex Mortensen is not expected to practice today because he still has some paperwork to fill out. He also needs to be cleared by the NCAA, but he could be on the practice field by Tuesday or Wednesday.
Mortensen, who served as a backup at Arkansas in 2005, will have one year of eligibility remaining after sitting out this upcoming season.
"He's coming back a man," his father said.
