Nutt Criticizes Players Following Lazy Practi

FAYETTEVILLE -- Apparently, Arkansas' players needed more than free pizza and two days off to practice hard Thursday afternoon.

Coach Houston Nutt criticized his players after he watched them look lackadaisical during an hourlong practice in shorts and shoulder pads.

"Well, after a real good practice yesterday, that was disappointing today," Nutt said. "I thought our mindset was just horrible, and after so good a workout yesterday with people knowing their assignments and playing hard, that was a big disappointment today.

"... That's not how you practice. There is only one way you practice and if you practice with a purpose to get better. You either get better or you get worse. (We) got worse today, and you can't do that."

Nutt was particularly bothered by the fact that Thursday was the Razorbacks' final practice of the week. The players will have today and Saturday off before returning Sunday to continue preparing for next week's game at Alabama.

In addition, players were treated to Papa John's pizza after the disappointing practice. Each player received their own pizza as they headed to the locker room.

Nutt insisted that there would be a noticeable improvement when he puts the team through an extended practice in full pads at 3:30 p.m. Sunday.

Nutt said he was particularly disappointed that the team didn't put forth a better effort considering that they were given the weekend off.

"I was hoping we'd have enough leadership right there and enough maturity to say, 'You know what? We're going to go so hard for 12 periods. Coach Nutt has kind of rewarded us right here, we're going to go so hard,'" Nutt said.

"And if I didn't have to go to this junior college game (tonight), we'd probably still be out here practicing."
