Simpson's Delight

Chicago Simeon center Stan Simpson (6-9, 220) talks about his weekend visit to the University of Arkansas.

Chicago prep basketball star Stan Simpson was pretty sure he was going to like what he saw on his official visit to the University of Arkansas.

The 6-9, 220-pound center that will play at Simeon High this season certainly wasn't disappointed.

"I really like the school and the players are cool," Simpson said. "I think Arkansas has a great situation in that they don't have any an NBA or NFL team and so the whole state is so supportive. I mean just look how many people they have at an open gym. I like this town and this place a lot."

Simpson, who has family in Little Rock, is also being recruited by Illinois – where he has an official visit Oct. 5-7 – Kentucky an Bradley.

His visit to Arkansas was his first official one to any of the four aforementioned schools.

He has spent a lot of time in Little Rock and had been to Fayetteville one other time for the Real Deal on the Hill AAU Tournament.

"I talked to the athletic director who has been here for 50 years and he is a great man," Simpson said. "I think Arkansas has coaches that can help me get to the next level. I also talked to the Dean of Schools and know that I could get a great education here."

Simpson got a chance to play pick-up games with the current Razorbacks on Saturday afternoon.

"I think they have some very good players that would be coming back when I got here, but I also think I could come in and earn a spot as long as I work hard."

He got a chance to gauge his game against the Razorbacks bevy of older inside players.

"I think I am running the floor real well," Simpson said. "I think I need to work on my outside skills, but my inside game has really come along. I am just going to keep working hard on all my fundamentals."
