Petrino Excites Askew

Camden Fairview defensive end Lavunce Askew (6-3, 278) meets new Razorback head coach Bobby Petrino and likes what he hears about the defensive side of things.

New University of Arkansas head Bobby Petrino has made his name on the offensive side of the ball, but he said things about his defensive philosophy Thursday night that left Lavunce Askew smiling.

Askew (6-3, 278), one of three Razorback commits from Camden Fariview, got an in-home visit from the new coach and UA assistant Tim Horton.

"I really like him," Askew said of Petrino. "He came and we didn't just talk football, we talked man-to-man. We have started a great relationship and I am still a solid commitment to Arkansas. My dad really liked him, too."

Askew said that Petrino told him that he would line him up at defensive end, defensive tackle and even nose guard.

He had 7 sacks among his 58 tackles this season.

"He told me that he wants to rush the passer and react to the run," Askew said. "That's my style of play and he was excited that I feel comfortable with either my right or left hand down. He said he could see me lining up at end, tackle and even at noseguard."

Askew, who has taken visits to Texas Tech and Oklahoma State, said he will also take official visits to Tennessee and Mississippi State along with his one to Arkansas in January.

"I am going to take all five of my official visits and an unofficial one to Ole Miss," Askew said. "But I am all about Arkansas."

It seems to be all about Petrino as well.

"He is serious about what he is doing and you can tell that by the fact that he took a paycut – a real big one – to come back to college because that is what he loves," Askew said. "You can tell he is in it to win it."
