Conway coach Proud of Ex-Wampus Cats

With some Wampus Cats bouncing around Walker Pavilion at Arkansas football practice Wednesday, Conway coach Kenny Smith was all smiles.

Conway coach Kenny Smith was at practice Wednesday. Smith is biased but he noted that with a healthy Peyton Hillis at fullback to end last season he didn't think Arkansas would have lost to LSU, Florida or Wisconsin.

"I think Peyton would have made a big difference in all of those games," Smith said. "It would not have taken that much from him to put us over the top. He was playing so well before going out last year."

Smith is excited that Hillis is closing in on his degree. He said that will be six degrees in six attempts on the six players Smith said have come here under the Houston Nutt era.

"The last staff got six of my players and all of them got diplomas," Smith said. "That's huge in my playbook."

On the subject of another Conway product, Smith is very biased where it comes to Tim Horton, too.

"I think the world of Tim Horton, I really do," Smith said. "I think high school coaches all over our state have come to know Tim in the last few months and they all agree with me that he is a great, great person and coach. He's going to be a great asset to Bobby Petrino.

"I'm getting calls day by day from high school coaches I know who are calling to tell me about Tim Horton. I got a call from Bo Hembree and Bernie Cox this week. They love Tim. They are all also excited about Coach Petrino coming here."
