There may be a few committed recruits that have earned the label soft by taking other visits, but Louisiana prep linebacker Jelani Smith is not one of those.
In fact, Smith (6-1, 205, 4.57) says he is solid as a rock when it comes to his pledge to the University of Arkansas.
"I am real solid," Smith said. "I am going to be a Razorback."
Smith, who shined this season for Abbeville High, is one of 22 or so official visitors expected to be on the UA campus this weekend.
He took an unofficial visit this past summer to Arkansas and committed soon afterwards.
He made the decision to not visit other places such as Oklahoma State, who came after him again when the UA coaching change took place.
"I think it is a great place and yes, the coaches have changed, but it is the place I want to play my college football at," Smith said.
Smith has now had in-home visits with new Razorback head coach Bobby Petrino, and assistants Bobby Allen and Reggie Johnson, the man who will be in charge of linebackers.
"They all see like great guys," Smith said. "I feel real good about what they had to say and the plans they have for me."
Smith had 109 tackles this season despite missing 2 games for a 5-5 team.
"Overall our season was average, but I felt my season individually went pretty well," Smith said. "I had a 109 tackles in the eight games I played and I had a lot of big hits. That's something I really enjoy."
