Weems Takes Dunk Title

Arkansas senior Sonny Weems takes the State Farm Slam Dunk Championship on Thursday night wit a spectacular array of slams that includes one take-off from the free throw line

University of Arkansas senior Sonny Weems took the State Farm and Vegas.Com Slam Dunk Championship Thursday night by besting six other competitors on the campus of St. Mary's University in San Antonio, Texas.

Weems' final dunk was awarded a 47 by a judging panel that included former San Antonio Spur David Robinson, former Dallas Cowboy Emmitt Smith, Cleveland Browns tight end Kellen Winslow and current Texas star Limas Sweed.

That was good enough to best Texas A&M Corpuis-Christi's Will Bullard, a high-flying walk on who had a 44.

Weems made it to the finals with a spectacular dunk from the free throw line that earned him a 49.5 from the judges.

Weems, Bullard, Maryland's James Gist and New Mexico's J.R. Giddens were the semifinalists.

Also competing were Georgetown's Patrick Ewing, Jr., Illinois' Brian Randle and Virginia Tech's Deron Washington.
