Diamond Hogs Notebook

You're Outta Here! Arkansas coach Dave Van Horn was ejected for the second time this season Sunday, arguing balls and strikes with home plate umpire Morris Hodges in the top of the 10th inning. The fact is, though, Van Horn was actually more upset with a previous call made by Hodges.

Or actually, a call not made.

On a 1-1 pitch to Auburn's Joseph Sanders, it appeared like Sanders went around on the swing for strike two. But after the scoreboard showed a 1-2 count, Hodges ruled there was no swing and changed it to 2-1. At the time, there were two outs in the inning and the Tigers had yet to score their two runs in the frame to put away the Razorbacks.

Sanders ended up walking in the at-bat and Auburn then took its first and only lead when Brian Fletcher followed with a two-run single.

"You guys saw it, it was pretty obvious," Van Horn said. "There's a big difference between a 1-2 count and a 2-1 count in that situation.

"The only thing I was disappointed with is (Hodges) felt like he couldn't ask (first base umpire Mark Chapman if it was a swing) because he just didn't want to ask him. I feel like if he would have asked him right when he asked him to instead of me coming out there, then basically there we go and we're going to get the call."

Still No Series Win

Arkansas lost its fourth consecutive Southeastern Conference weekend series after collapsing down the stretch against Auburn on Sunday. It marks the first time since the 2000 season — when the Razorbacks finished just 8-20 in the SEC — an Arkansas team has lost four conference series in a row. The Diamond Hogs also remain as just one of two teams in the SEC yet to win a league series this year, along with Mississippi State.

On Deck...

Arkansas will try to bounce back at 6:35 p.m. Tuesday when it hosts Oral Roberts (20-7). Then the Razorbacks must hit the road and play SEC title contender Florida (21-10, 8-4) in a three-game series this weekend. The series with the Gators begins a four-game road trip for the Diamond Hogs, who also visit Oral Roberts on April 15 before returning home to play Tennessee the following weekend.
