Fairchild Arrested For Second Time

FAYETTEVILLE — Troubled former Arkansas linebacker Freddie Fairchild was arrested early Sunday after Fayetteville police say he tried running from officers who had smelled burnt marijuana coming from an apartment building he was at.

Fairchild, 22, was arrested and booked into the Washington County Jail at 3:09 a.m. Sunday on misdemeanor charges of possession of a controlled substance and fleeing. He was released at 2:48 p.m. Sunday after posting a $1,000 bond.

This is the second arrest in the past five months for Fairchild, who was kicked off Arkansas' football team on June 11 following his arrest in late March on charges of assaulting a girlfriend and keeping her against her will.

According to a Fayetteville police spokesperson, Fairchild started walking away Sunday when officers responded to a noise complaint at an apartment building on North Street. Officers told Fairchild to stop, but he began running from them and was soon arrested.

Fairchild is scheduled to appear in Fayetteville District Court on Aug. 25. He started 11 games as a sophomore last season, leading Arkansas with 4 1/2 sacks and finishing third with 92 tackles.
