Lafayette (La.) Carencro standout Ricky Johnson became the University of Arkansas' 12th verbal pledge of the 2009 football recruiting class when he officially committed to the Razorbacks on Tuesday afternoon.
He chose the UA over co-finalist Georgia Tech after making an unofficial visit to Fayetteville this past weekend, but then having to evacuate to Shreveport because of Hurricane Gustav.
"It's just the right place for me," Johnson said Tuesday. "I couldn't get a signal to talk to the Arkansas coaches, but I wanted to commit as soon as I could."
He took a visit to Fayetteville this weekend to see the Razorbacks' 28-24 win over Western Illinois, but had to leave early Sunday.
"I liked everything about my visit," Johnson said. "It was nice. They have great facilities. I got a chance to look at the campus, meet the coaches and I met some of the players. I like their passing game and I see they could use some receivers."
Johnson lines up at wideout, quarterback and running back for Carencro.
He rushed for 1,296 yards, passed for 400 and had receptions totaling around 330 yards as a junior.
Carencro is out of school through at least Wednesday.
"There was no damage, nothing happened," Johnson said. "Everything's all good."
