Mitchell headed to Arkansas

Per a source, Arkansas has landed Amite (La.) High quarterback Brandon Mitchell (6-4, 220), who has passed for over 4,000 yards and rushed for 1,800 more in the past two seasons.

With the graduation of Casey Dick and Alex Mortensen and the transfer of Nathan Dick, Arkansas decided to look at adding another quarterback to the already committed Will Secord.

Per a source, the first one to be brought in on a visit has now committed - Amite (La.) High standout Brandon Mitchell (6-4, 220), who actually committed as a sophomore to play basketball at LSU.

Since that point in time, Mitchell has gotten more into football and decided to give that sport a look.

He passed for over 4,000 yards and 52 touchdowns and rushed for another 1,800 yards in his final two seasons for Amite.

"I just really started enjoying it and wanted to look at my options when it comes to football," Mitchell said. "I am not totally sure that is what I am going to do, but is the way I am leaning right now."

Mitchell, who has a 42-inch vertical, took his first football visit to Arkansas and he had trips to Michigan, Tulsa and Mississippi State also on his plate.

"My trip to Arkansas was great and they are my leader now because it is the first place that I have seen and how I really liked the coaches, the facilities and the players," Mitchell said on Sunday night. Somebody's going to have to go a long way to beat that."

Apparently they won't get the chance - in part, because the Arkansas offense is one he believes fits him.

"It doesn't rely so much on the read zones so that fits what I do better and allows me to make plays with both my arms and legs."
